Welcome to Weeks in the World!

I’m Suzanne (Sue) Bowness and I like to write about my vacation travel. I’m also a freelance writer/editor who has written a handful of travel stories and open to assignment if anyone wants to send me anywhere! My journalism portfolio is online at www.suzannebowness.com and my copywriting business CodeWord Communications is online at www.codeword.ca.

The original “weeks in the world” adventure actually consisted of just two weeks or to be more precise, a “ten countries, sixteen days” (plus a few tacked on in London) Contiki tour. My first time in Europe. My first time on a plane.

Of course I’d travelled before in North America with my parents: lots of family camping trips to New England, Easter weekends in New York city or Washington D.C., the Carolinas, Disney World.

My parents were even big travelers before me, leaving Canada behind at age 25 and buying a trailer and car to camp across Europe for 14 months. The stuff of family legend.

My travel history as an adult has evolved into my two or three-week annual vacation: after Contiki Europe I’ve been back to Europe several times touring with a rail pass. On this site you’ll find a trip to Europe I took with my brother in 2007, trying to re-create that first tour with him, my own trip to the UK, and my first blog about spending a month in New York City renting an apartment via Craigslist.

I’ve also taken three-week tours of the Rockies in the West, with my parents to the East Coast of Canada, California, Japan to visit friends teaching English and others.

In this blog I’m keeping a record of my recent trips. Not all past are recorded because I only had this great idea recently. I may also add pictures to the ones posted here that don’t contain them, apparently I’ve made a progression from no photos to adding photos.

I hope these blogs can inspire others reading them not only about what to see and do in different destinations, but also to make the most of their vacations.
